California Land Cover

Project Background:

The California Gap land cover mapping project was completed in December of 2008.

The collection of field data and construction of models was done separately for each MRLC zone using Classification and Regression Tree analysis (CART). The project area contains zones 3, 4, 5, 6, and portions of 12, and 13.

This project relies on NatureServe’s Ecological System classification, the same classification system used in regional GAP projects in the Northwest, Southwest and Southeast. Detailed descriptions of the mapped Ecological Systems can be found at http://www.natureserve.org/explorer/.

This project was conducted at the Portland office of the Sanborn Map Company, Inc. Steve Lennartz of Sanborn was the mapping team leader. Anne Davidson conducted product reviews and project management from the National Gap office in Moscow Idaho.
